Bigården Johannero

Vårt älskade Klapphus lutar betänkligt. Och det har det gjort i många,många år. Sveriges enda  igång varande klapphus har med tiden blivit en Kalmarsymbol, som man ofta ser på bilder över vår älskade stad.

This is the only remaining laundry beat house in Sweden. The house wifes were beating their heavy laundry with a wooden beater inside this house where they were protected against cold and nasty winds. They were standing in big wooden barrels beating the laundy against a "bridge" surrounding the inside of the house. Then they washed the laundry in a pool with fresh sea water,in the centre; the process being repeated over and over again. Nowadays it is has become a symbol of our beloved town and it can often be seen on pictures introducing Kalmar.
