ABSOLUT SKÅL! To your health!
To my English spoken friends I must explain the reason behind the name ABSOLUT SKÅL!
In Swedish we have one and the same word for a skål ( =a bowl ) and SKÅL, the expression which is world wide known when we salute " To your health". So the English name of this mushroom, Brown bowl thus means Brown SKÅL to us. And the expression SKÅL ! originates from when the vikings were celebrating a victory. They sent a BOWL = SKÅL around containing a hefty brew which was made from fermented bee honey.There are people saying that the bowl was the skull of a killed enemy, but I don´t know. Maybe?
